Opening Day!

Today is the first game for the Brewers, taking on the Reds. Yovanni Gallardo gets the hill, and should be a great game. He’s had a great spring overall, and the rest of the team did as well, going 19-11 this spring.

As is usual, the teams that stay healthy throughout the season tend to do well, so the Brewers need to do their best to stay healthy and not do stupid stuff (I’m talking to you Zack Greinke) so they can make another run at the postseason.

I only have a short time to write this, as it’s time for a work meeting, good luck Brewers, I’m hoping for 162-0 this season!

I heart Spring Training

So I was driving to the grocery store today when I discovered the Brewers Radio Network was broadcasting the game. This made me extremely happy and giddy like a kid again. I had forgotten how awesome it was to listen to Bob Uecker call a game. I can’t wait until it’s spring!! Now granted, this might not seem like a thing to be excited about for some of you, but you need to remember that I live in northern Wisconsin, and there is still a foot of snow and ice on the ground, with the high today being about 28. So spring is a big deal.

Also, it means that the softball season is coming up. We have our parents meeting tomorrow night, which will be the first time for most of the parents getting to meet me, the new coach. Should be a good time. Hopefully the weather warms up soon so all this snow melts and the grass starts growing!

On an unrelated note, I just finished watching the first (and only) season of the television show, “Firefly.” After finishing the show, per the request of a friend of mine, I have no clue why this show was cancelled. “Firefly” was awesome!!! If you haven’t checked it out, by all means, you need to see it. Think of it as a Western set in space. Pure, unadulterated awesomeness.

It has been a few years since I’ve ventured into the blogging world, so bear with me for the time being, while I get everything straight. Many things have changed since you’ve last heard from me, for better and worse. But, at long last, I’m back and I hope you all enjoy!

I no longer live in St. Louis, instead living in northern Wisconsin, in a small town called Merrill, where I work in a family chiropractic office educating our community about health and wellness. I also coach high school girls softball, and am very much looking forward to our upcoming season.

Since it’s late, I’ll keep things short tonight. Suffice it to say, the Packers won the Super Bowl (yay!), the Badgers football team made the Rose Bowl (but lost, boooo), the Badgers men’s basketball team is doing well this year and are a lock for the Big Dance. The Bucks suck yet again. And lastly, the Brewers have started Spring Training, and it should be a great season for them!

It’s getting late, so I’m going to get some sleep. I hope all of you are doing great, and, as always, feel free to comment, discuss, etc., and have a great night!

Wow. That’s all I have to say about the Brewers lately. Nothing can go right for them. Absolutely nothing. The only good thing right now is that they are still in the lead in the NL Central. And that is only because the rest of the Central is just as bad as the Brewers right now. I just got done watching the Brewers bats finally get some insurance for the masterpiece that Ben Sheets threw against the Rangers. So, one would think that going into the bottom of the ninth with a 3-0 lead, lights out closer Cordero should be money. No, he gives up 5 hits, 4 runs to lose the game. That’s it, I’m frustrated, no longer am I going to be blogging. This is the last one. If you want to talk baseball with me, go to my myspace at www.myspace.com/chiroman5. I’ve had enough!

What’s happening?

What has happened to the Brewers? After their amazing homestand, they have ****** it up on the road. First out east, now out west, they are not performing to my expectations. One bright spot from last night’s game against the Padres was seeing Ryan Braun make his Major League debut. He collected two RBI’s and had a double. Also, it was nice to see Tony Gwynn, Jr. come home against to play against his father’s former team. Oh, not to mention the recurrence of the Bash Brothers in J.J. Hardy and Prince Fielder. I mean, many expected Prince to be hitting the homers at this pace, but almost no one foresaw Hardy mashing the ball this much. If only the hitting could coincide with the pitching. If the pitching is outstanding one game, the Brewers can’t seem to hit the broad side of a barn. If they are hitting the ball well, they can’t seem to get anyone out. It’s a vicious circle. Hopefully they can turn it around and take the series against the Padres before heading back for a much-needed homestand.

You know what the best part of living in my apartment is? I can watch 6 sporting events at the same time. That’s simultaneously! How awesome is that? Take this past Sunday for example. I finally hooked up my other two tv’s to the cable, so now I have 5 televisions hooked up. Add them to my computer screen and watching MLBTV on that, that’s 6 games at the same time. Granted, there usually aren’t 6 baseball games on at the same time on cable channels, so I merely watched some NBA playoff basketball, college lacrosse, golf, and rodeo on the other tv’s. It was amazing to say the least. Of course, I had the Brewer game on my computer, and got to watch them come back and beat the Twinkies in the final game of their first interleague series. That was definitely a win the Crew desperately needed. Now they go into Los Angeles and San Diego on a winning note. Since their previous road trip was a paltry 2-5, they need to take it to the Dodgers and Padres and open up that lead in the NL Central a little more. Go Brewers!

Well baseball fans and bloggers, at long last, I’m back. I had a fantastic break, but, unfortunately, I’m now back in school. What this does mean, however, is that I’m back to the blogging and following my Brewers. I am extremely pleased to see that they are currently the best team in baseball. They had a great homestand, one of the best I’ve ever seen, and now we need to root them to continue their winning ways on the road. J.J. Hardy is absolutely killing the ball right now, as is Prince Fielder. Right now, my vote goes to Hardy to start the All-Star game at short. Who’s with me? Once again, go Brewers!!!

Wow. What an awful inning the Brewers bullpen had tonight in the bottom of the 7th. The worst meltdown of the year by far. The Crew was up a run going in, and even managed to get two outs and no one scoring (thanks to a couple masterfully pitched batters by Brian Shouse), but then comes Greg Aquino who promptly gives up the tying run and then walks (intentionally) Scott Hatteberg to load the bases and THEN WALKS ALEX GONZALEZ ON FOUR STRAIGHT PITCHES!!! Come on! You are a major league pitcher, throw a strike! There is absolutely no excuse. I would have been MUCH happier if Gonzalez had hit a grand slam, at least it would have meant Aquino was throwing strikes. But no. He walked the lead run in. Horrible job by the bullpen tonight. I’d also like to interject here that, personally, I think that Carlos Villanueva should be sent back down to Triple-A, as he is clearly not ready for the big leagues yet. When you have nearly four times as many walks as K’s, there’s something wrong. He needs to fix it fast, or he’ll be out of a job.

Oh, and by the way, this will be my last post for three weeks, as I am going home over break, and won’t have a chance to blog until I get back to StL. Until then, I’ll be forced to listen to Uecker and Powell on the radio instead of watching the Crew on MLBTV. That’s not something I mind however, as I’m a huge fan of Mr. Baseball, I think he’s hilarious. Until next time, GO BREWERS!!!

Brewers Rule!!!

I would just like to commend the Brewers’ bullpen for the awesome job they did this past series against the Marlins. They were amazing in the extra-inning, two day game. Pretty much the whole pen was a part of that game. Also, kudos to Frankie Cordero for back to back saves on the same day. Turnbow was also lights out, as he’s been this whole season. If the Brewers manage to have a lead going into the 8th, it’s over for the opposing team.

This weekend is a big series for the Crew, as it is the first series against division rival and current World Champion St. Louis Cardinals. Hopefully my Brewers can manage to actually put some of their runners on base across the plate. That has been their downfall this whole season. They are hitting the cover off the ball, but can’t produce in the clutch. Also, I’m going to the second game of the series. I am STOKED about that, as it’s my first game of the season. I’m looking for Capuano to pitch, so it should make for a great game. The weather forecast isn’t looking too pretty, low forties and rain, so hopefully the precipitation holds off long enough to get the game in. I’m from WI, so the cold won’t bother me a bit, it’s just having to sit through rain delays I’m not a fan of. Sheets, Cappy, and Suppan are going. That last game should be bittersweet for Word-Of-The-Day, as he’ll be facing his former team. I love it. Go Brewers!!!

Where’s the runs at?

Why are the Brewers so confounding? Once again, they outhit their opponent, yet lose the only statistic that really counts, runs. Geoff Jenkins seems to be on a tear, hitting a home run in each of the past three games. This past one was opposite field even. Great hitting. Both he and Kevin Mench have been hitting well, something I like to see since they are platooning. And, Tony Graffanino and WI native Craig Counsell are both hitting the ball well, too. That’s exactly what a manager wants, for both of the guys to want to be playing so well that he has a hard time deciding who should ride the pine for the day. Now, the Brewers need to just execute and put some RUNS ON THE BOARD!!! I’m getting sick of watching them leave so many guys on base. They are getting the hits, but no one can seem to hit a sac fly or base hit when it’s needed. And Billy Hall, what was going on in game one against the Fish, with the running on a fly ball hit to right? That’s fundamental baseball, no excuses. Unless it was a run and hit play, but still, to not even take a look back. Also, the center field defense needs to step it up some Billy. I know you are still learning the ropes, but dropping a catchable ball on the track to give Borchard the errored triple, and then letting a ball go over your head for the ground-rule double. Gotta judge balls better. But, I have faith that you will improve greatly over the season as you get used to it. I know it can’t be easy playing CF in the gigantic outfield that is Dolphins Stadium. My hat’s off to the pitching, they are doing a good job so far, too bad for Word-of-the-Day Suppan, he’ll get his first win soon. And, good luck to Claudio Vargas making his first start for the Crew tomorrow against a guy making his Major League debut. Traditionally, guys making their Major League debut against the Brewers tend to dominate, so let’s all hope the Brewers can continue their hitting ways and win a few!
